A Ban Match is an honor duel, agreed upon by both parties, in which the loser of the match is banned for a set amount of time. This tradition originally started to honor the old gods, Ayunema, Luciddream, and Fiddle, to celebrate the souls of annoying players being banished.
The fastest ban match, (quite possibly) in recorded history, lasted about 5 seconds when both parties used Diamond Swords with Sharpness and unenchanted Chainmail armor.
